In the United States, contaminated food causes 48 million illnesses, 128,000 hospitalizations, and 3,000 deaths annually.
Dr. Sadhana Ravishankar's aim is to contribute towards a significant reduction in illnesses by improving the safety of foods by:
  • Researching practical solutions, with an emphasis on natural products for the food industry in order to provide safe and wholesome foods for the consumer
  • Teaching courses on food microbiology and biotechnology
  • Providing outreach activities engaging producers and communities
  • Providing microbiology testing services to industry
